Specialty Finishes started in 1985 with an opportunity - Neil Heath was working at a Richmond, VA metal finisher when a customer, very disgruntled at the current owner, approached Neil asking if he could do better for them. Neil was not happy being associated with poor customer service, and quickly started his own company, focusing on electroless nickel plating for industrial machinery applications. Shortly thereafter, Neil added powder coating, teflon coating, and anodizing.

In 1990, walls of Specialty Finishes were bursting at the seams; it started its next chapter in its current location at 311 Tynick Street. Over the years, Specialty Finishes has developed a loyal customer base due to its attention to quality, fast turnaround, and fair pricing.

Neil retired in 2020, 35 years after opening Specialty Finishes. The current owner, Sean Novak, has over 14 years of metal finishing leadership experience, both at high-mix, low-volume, quick-turn companies as well as major consumer electronics OEMs.  Sean is passionate about solving problems and delighting clients.

Specialty Finishes has grown and changed over the years, but our focus on customer satisfaction has not.
